Grease Filter Exchange Programs: A Practical Guide

A grease filter exchange program replaces dirty kitchen exhaust filters with clean filters on an agreed schedule. It helps organise routine filter care, but it is not a replacement for cleaning the whole kitchen exhaust system.
What grease filters do
Grease-arresting filters capture part of the grease carried in cooking exhaust. Their performance depends on the type, condition and correct fit. They do not capture every particle or vapour, so deposits can still collect behind the filters and in ducts.
How an exchange program works
Agree the compatible filter type, quantity, sizes, site access and service timing with the provider. Dirty filters are exchanged for suitable clean filters. Damaged, missing or poorly fitting filters should be raised separately rather than repeatedly put back into service.
Choose the interval for your kitchen
Consider cooking hours, food type, equipment, deposit levels and previous findings. A lightly used kitchen should not automatically copy a busy cooking line. Follow the applicable maintenance requirements and review the schedule when use changes.
Keep the full-system clean on the register
The plenum, ductwork, fan and discharge need their own inspection and cleaning scope. Kitchen exhaust and canopy cleaning addresses components that filter exchange alone does not reach.
Check wastewater handling
Ask how removed filters are cleaned and how grease, chemicals and wastewater are managed. See our guide to filter washing and trade waste responsibilities; stormwater and sewer disposal are not interchangeable.
Compare quotes using real site details
Provide your filter count, dimensions, type, location and access arrangements. Confirm the quoted inclusions rather than relying on generic prices or promises that a program guarantees compliance.
